I am a creator. I work at the intersection of storytelling, change, and impact. I started my career at The Tico Times, a weekly newspaper in Costa Rica, and returned to the U.S. and worked for The New York Times as a full-time stringer in the Midwest bureau. Today I use my training as a journalist to work on assignments big and small that range from content creation to documentary production to teaching and advocating for including sports in the lives of girls and women. Capturing and sharing the stories of people, places, and everything in between, is what I love to do.

I believe in the power of people’s stories and in the intersection of storytelling and change. From the pioneers of women’s rugby in Fiji, to workers on the frontlines of the Fight for $15, the stories we must tell and must listen to - go beyond a headline and the struggle.  I have documented the stories of people exonerated by DNA evidence for an audio and data project that captured these voices for the first time on a large scale. I have sat with and interviewed families who have lost loved ones who died crossing the U.S. border. I have designed exhibits to showcase stories in South America and the U.S..

I have reported for outlets across the media landscape from newspapers to radio stations to television stations. I have worked on production projects throughout the U.S. and Central/South America for various outlets, including Kartemquin Films, PBS, the History Channel, and the U.S. State Department. And, I have taught as an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University in the Medill School of Journalism.

I am the founder of the nonprofit The Through Her Eyes Project, which documents and shares the stories of girls and women around the world who play sports and are empowered to be changemakers in their communities, trains them to tell their own stories, and supports and funds their play.

The roots of my work at The Through Her Eyes Project lie in my desire to fill a media gap that I noticed during my first job as a reporter at a weekly newspaper in Costa Rica. This early reporting experience combined with a mission to share reporting tools with young girls and women, shapes how I approach my work and how I teach and move in the world.

I also pop popcorn for my family’s company in my spare time, will join a pick up game of anything on any court around the world, and most mornings, hit the road of whatever city I am in, to run before the day gets going.

I am dedicated to bringing my expertise and experience in the field of journalism, documentary, audio, and multimedia reporting, and in the nonprofit, teaching, community development, outreach, and sports sectors to make change for good in the world.

Let’s work together!
