I create content in new ways and tell stories that matter. I work at the intersection of storytelling and change.

Here's a look at some of my projects.

The Through Her Eyes Project - Fiji

Bula! (Hello! in Fijian)

I recently visited the incredibly diverse and beautiful country of Fiji, comprised of 333 islands. There, I had a chance to meet some of the impressive women and girls who play sports all around these islands and who are using sport to uplift themselves and their communities, and expand the work The Through Her Eyes Project is doing. I met women like Mela, a coach who travels the country to introduce sports, including dance aerobics, to villages around the country and her own village north of Suva. And, I spent time with girls like the members of the powerful and fierce Rara Warriors youth rugby team who are learning the rules of rugby and lessons of life through the UNWomen and Oceania Rugby Get into Rugby PLUS program. During my time in Fiji I also had the chance to run workshops teaching girls and young women about the power of story and how to tell their own story and the stories of their communities. Profiles and photos of some of the amazing sports changemakers on this island nation will be coming to the site soon!

The Through Her Eyes Project - Sister Teams and Your Story

A growing and expanding component of The Through Her Eyes Project is our Sister Teams and Your Story initiatives. These two initiatives go beyond the stories. In this era of a worldwide Covid-19 pandemic and an ever important fight for racial and social justice and protection for the most vulnerable and marginalized communities, connecting and supporting each other is one of the most important things we can do.

Now more than ever we need to work to advance the fight for equality not only in the sports arena, but everywhere. To that end, we are working to get more teams and girls involved in our Sister Teams program designed to connect teams around the world and in the U.S., to help them with access to sports equipment and gear, and to take part in our teaching and training sessions where we teach the power of story, why each person’s story matters, and the basic tools to tell one’s own story. YWCA Evanston - YWCulinary Training Cohort

How does training for a new career shape our lives? Through a new program at the YWCA Evanston, women across the Evanston area are learning basic culinary skills through an intensive 12-week long program. Under the guidance of Chef Gloria Simpson, students learn to chop, dice, saute, and much more to set them up for successful career in the food industry. They each bring their own experiences, meals, and spices unique to their lives into the shared kitchen space. What can new career training like this mean for low to moderate income women interested in changing careers? I spent time following the first cohort of students through the process, stay tuned for a look at their journey through photos and audio interviews.

Poetry for All

The Poetry Foundation in Chicago runs a monthly program where seniors meet to discuss, read, and share poetry. Led by Maggie Queeney, the men and women come from all walks of life and circle up around prose, phrases, and sentences and connect to share meaning and emotion. I attended a group showcase one cold evening in February and the choir of voices made me want to know more about this group of seniors who were sharing their original works. So, I started to spend some time attending the sessions to get to know these poets and I think you should know more about them, too.
